The Rhinoceros have been around for nearly 55 million years, but in species other than today’s there were around 30 different species.
The Rhinoceros that we know today has 5 species spread over different continents. All of these species are threatened with extinction, with a current total of 20,000 individuals.
It can be said that today’s Rhinoceros hasn’t changed much in profile for at least 36,000 years, if we are to believe the wall frescoes depicting it on the walls of the Chauvet Cave. Even if at the time it was in Europe Woolly Rhinoceros which were a little bigger.
