Perfect flower.

A Picasso painting in the dining room of the Colombe d’Or in Saint Paul de Vence struck me like love at first sight, but not at first sight, only after seeing it several times, over several years, without more reaction than that

But it is the occasion of a documentary, on this hotel restore, after a shot of a few seconds on this painting, that the intellectual flash has occurred. I took a shock of wonder, better than love at first sight since there was no need for feedback.

To better understand this wonderful emotional encounter, I searched the Internet to see and study this painting more closely.

For me it is obvious, Picasso through an allegory of the Sunflower represented a seated woman crossing her legs.

I then needed to do a pictorial translation, drawing an interpretation of this masterpiece.

This inspiration led me to represent the allegory of a hermaphrodite plant and its beauty.

The hermaphrodite flower is also said to be the perfect flower. As are the paintings of Master Picasso

Monoecious *, Dioecious *

Monoecium *: Monoecia characterizes a plant, called monoecious, which has male and female flowers in different places on the same foot. Variant: monoecious hermaphroditism, with the combination of the reproductive functions of both genera in a single flower.

Diécie *: The diecium or dioecium is the arrangement of the reproductive organs of dioecious plants whose individuals are strictly monosexual, or monogamous, that is to say that each foot bears only flowers either male or female.

To ask the question whether a plant is monoecious * or dioecious * is already to classify it in the limited category of non-hermaphroditic plants because in truth the most frequent case is that of the hermaphroditic flower, also called “Perfect flower”, which is organized with a crown of stamens (the male organ) around a central pistil (the female organ).

The adjectives monoecious and dioecious, on the contrary, refer to plants bearing unisexual flowers and the way in which these flowers are distributed.

An example of a monoecious plant, Corn:

The male and female flowers are carried by the same plant but are a little far from each other, the ideal goal being that there can be cross-fertilization between neighboring plants, while allowing self-pollination if necessary.

To promote allogamy (cross pollination that prevents a species from degenerating by genetically impoverishing itself),

An example of a dioecious plant, the Aspen:

Many deciduous trees bear distinct catkins, some male and some female, but not all are dioecious.

For a species to be dioecious, individuals must be unisexual, not just flowers. There must be exclusively male feet and exclusively female feet. Dioecious plants are therefore naturally allogamous.

there is often a flowering time lag between male and female flowers of a given plant. Thus, on maize, the terminal panicle (of male flowers) produces its pollen which is deposited on the female flowers of a neighboring plant. These female flowers, located in the axils of the leaves, lower on the stem, present especially at this stage, long styles, the bristles, which must capture the pollen.

Finally, Polygamy exists in plants: for example, the Little Burnet (Sanguisorba minor) which is fun to detail. On the same flower head, we see at the top only female flowers (the small red styles), and at the base of the male flowers, from which hang stamens; in the middle some flowers are hermaphroditic!
